The Redmi Note 5 Pro from Xiaomi just received a new security feature via OTA update. This new security update brings the much anticipated Face Unlock feature on board the device. The update was set to launch next month, but it looks like in order to please its customers. Xiaomi has decided to launch the new Face Unlock feature earlier.
Xiaomi is also calling its new Face Unlock feature, faster than using the fingerprint scanner. Though same cannot be said about its security as a finger print scanner would still be a more secured option. The lead Project Manager of Xiaomi also made a statement saying “Our face detection algorithm scans facial features in roughly 500 milliseconds using a high accuracy matching mechanism’’.
The Face Unlock feature is now available through the MIUI X9.2.4 NEIMIEK OTA update. Which also brings other improvement as well, including stability and camera improvements. So user who just got their hands on the new Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro can update their phones right out of the box, with an update size of 1.6GB.
In terms of specs the Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro comes equipped with a 5.99 inch, 18:9 display. That supports a resolution of 1080 x 2160. There is also the Qualcomm Snapdragon 636 running under the hood, coupled with 4GB or 6GB of RAM. The Snapdragon 636 is an octa core processor that comes coupled with Adreno 509 GPU. Aside from that the device also comes equipped with a dual 12MP camera on the back, while a 5MP camera is present at the front.
