Xiaomi Mi Notebook 14 Review

After serving the smartphones’ arena, this year Xiaomi moved into the laptop segment in India. Xiaomi joined the Indian laptop market by releasing two new laptops (Mi Notebook 14 and Mi Notebook 14 Horizon).

Both laptops have affordable price ranges and also possess excellent features that will attend to your daily needs. While the Mi Notebook 14 is the less expensive one, the notebook includes an awesome metallic design and runs on the Windows 10 Home operating system.

This Xiaomi affordable laptop possesses an impressive all-metallic design and an anodized sandblasted coating, making the device strong. The alluring notebook weighs 1.5kg. To notice the differences between Xiaomi Mi Notebook 14 Horizon edition and the Mi Notebook 14, you’ll have to take a closer look because their designs are quite similar. For instance, the Mi Notebook 14 has a thicker bezel compared to the Horizon edition.

No company logo or moniker was included on the device, i.e., the laptop’s top possesses a flat surface with nothing engraved on it. At the same time, the laptop’s bottom has rubber grips that ensure that the laptop is firm and keeps the ventilation grills from the surface. There are two grills at the corners that are being used by the bottom-firing speakers.

The device’s left side possesses 2 USB ports and one HDMI port, while the right side of the Mi Notebook 14 has the USB Type-A port with a 3.5 mm jack with an LED indicator for charging and power. It also has quite a robust hinge that effectively holds the display in place.

And a small Mi logo is placed under the 14-inch display. Mi Notebook 14 is void of a webcam; Xiaomi didn’t include a webcam in the laptop. However, Xiaomi provided USB buyers with a webcam alongside the device that can be easily attached above the laptop to attend all your online meetings, so you have nothing to worry about.

The Xiaomi Mi Notebook 14 has a 14-inch display panel, the LED panel with a Full HD resolution. It is precisely how you think it will be, but what stands out is how bright it can go. This is also a matte display, which means reflections don’t get in the way. In most office environments, something that you will return to eventually, you will have poorly thought out and installed overhead lights reflecting off a laptop screen and into your eyes, but that’ll be much less of a problem with the Xiaomi Mi Notebook 14 laptop.

Apart from that, this screen did a fantastic job on the sharpness a bit, which helps with text and media. Webpages are easy to read, and videos don’t look smudgy. This display is very much acceptable as far as the colors and the richness are concerned—not necessarily the most accurate, but with that, you still have excellent color separation. The massive takeout is that there’s no clue of washed-out colors or lousy viewing angles, two issues that plague many of the Xiaomi Mi Notebook 14’s competitors.

The Xiaomi Mi Notebook 14 laptop has a slower SSD storage inside, but the truth is that it is the SSD that gives the Mi Notebook an advantage. The good news about the Mi Notebook 14 is that you’re not getting a laptop that suddenly gets slow or surprisingly slows down after a month to a year of usage. Although you won’t enjoy a total ultrabook level performance, the Mi Notebook 14 still works faster than most of its competitors.

A significant part of the Mi Notebook 14 matches the ultrabook level is the battery life. It has about 9 to 10-hour battery life, so far as it’s not used for games. The 14-inch full-HD display panel isn’t mere words on paper. It’s an incredible matte display that makes it easy to use in any light conditions. Its sharpness and color fidelity suits the price.

Although most people might enjoy the MacBook inspired trackpad of the laptop, it was discovered to be a bit small. And The clicks are integrated underneath the pad. The clicks aren’t smooth, and the sensor underneath can be fluctuating at times. Most times, you’ll have to press it to register a click, which most people may not like sincerely. Generally, Mi NoteBook 14 is an attractive and lightweight laptop for its price range.

Xiaomi stated it has a 10-hour battery life stem from the 46Wh battery in the Mi Laptop 14. Things are safer and more comfortable with the Core i5 that’s present on the Mi Notebook 14, and it gets about 9 hours with the similar frugality with the Xiaomi Mi Notebook 14 Horizon edition and with more than 8 hours the way most users would use the laptop, in a more concerted manner.

The Intel Core i5 processor offers the important versatility for performance that should keep your Xiaomi Mi Notebook 14 in good shape for a while. The SSD storage is faster than the standard hard drives that most of its competitors have, and it also provides the performance with a significant boost.

Although, the deficiency of keyboard backlighting is a bit frustrating. But you may see it as an extra step to plug in a webcam any time you have a meeting on a Zoom, Google Meet, or Microsoft Teams video meeting or video call. It is generally an affordable laptop, an attractive and well-built notebook, with a fantastic keyboard and a Full HD display. It is, without a doubt, the right laptop you need based on a low budget.
