This is something that apparently Microsoft have promised us back in 2016. At E3 2016 Microsoft has revealed that they are working on a new console and the trailer they have shown us, one of the developer was saying something about 4k uncompromised. Since then a lot of people jumped on this 4k uncompromised bandwagon and they were like “Is it really possible that Xbox One X is going to be this 4k uncompromised console? Is 6 TFLOPS is enough to run all the games in 4k Ultra settings with 60 FPS?”
If you know just a little bit about the tech and the Xbox One X specs, you would probably know that it’s not really possible. Because 6 TFLOPS of compute power is not enough. The problem is that this console is a 4k console, it will run most of the games in 4k whether it’s checkerboarded or not that another debate.
We believe that most of the games are going to be Native 4k but still you cannot say that this console is uncompromised. Some games will run in 30 FPS that’s one compromise. Some games will run in checkerboarded 4k that’s a bit of compromise as well. Some games will run at high or medium settings that’s another compromise. Consoles have always been about the compromises while PC gives infinite possibilities with different settings. Consoles have this set of specs and you cannot do anything about it.
While we know that Xbox One X is going to be very powerful console, it’s not 4k uncompromised, the question here is “Is that going to hurt Xbox as a brand and Xbox One X as a console?” As for the Microsoft, they don’t care because even though it’s been proven a lot of time by developers of Digital Foundry that Xbox One X do have to compromise in some ways, whether it’s resolution, framerate or graphical settings.
