Its unusual that Japanese motorcycles don’t have the traditional design as they do not follow the traditional principles of Zen aesthetics. Nowadays, if u look at the European style motorcycles, they have done a much better job in their design and performance but their design is usually generic.
So Japan has to use a concept of different design, which would make them different from the rest. The idea of the samurai concept would definitely work here, which would give the motorcycles an authentic Japanese look. And this concept could take inspirations from places like anime and origami to give them a unique Japanese feel.
The people who created it, are not really into traditions and all, they are just automotive designers. So the probability of such concept is really low. But lets just not talk about practicalities, instead let’s talk about what it can offer; it can provide a way to get back the traditional Zen principles, a simple, straight lines design which would contrast well with the well-formed curves of the Italian bikes, its design would give the sense of reliability and lightness.
Japanese motorcycles are doing well but if I look at their design, I tend to believe that they can do much better by taking advantage of the traditional Japanese concepts. There is always room for new ideas, so one must adapt while they can before it’s too late.
