Even though Vivo didn’t announce a new device this year at MWC. The company did grace us with its concept phone that demonstrates what phones would be like in the future. That includes the slimmest bezels we have seen on any smartphone and an embedded fingerprint scanner, which covers half of the screen.
This concept phone from Vivo is known as the Apex. The phone comes equipped with a flexible OLED display, that allows the phone to be a nearly bezel free device. This allows the phones to achieve an amazing 98% screen to body ratio. The phone also comes equipped with a 5.99 inch display, which support a FullHD+ resolution on an 18:9 panel.
Vivo was also able to achieve this by using an embedded fingerprint scanner. Which covers bottom half of the OLED display on the Vivo Apex. Though the phone is just a concept and is in its developmental stages. It still works better than the Vivo X20 plus though, which also sports an embedded fingerprint scanner on a fixed spot.
A bezel-less design does seem interesting to look at. But with it phone manufacturers do run out of space to put the earpiece, camera and the sensors in. Where Vivo decided to go with the vibration of the display to produce sound. As for the front facing camera, well the Vivo Apex sports a motorized selfie camera that pops-up when needed and then goes back into its place once the user is done.
Mobile World Congress 2018, is crowded with good phones this year. So its usually hard to get the attention of users, among such great device. But I think Vivo was able to hit it with its concept Apex phone. There is no news whether Vivo will make the Apex into a real device. But do expect something similar this year.
