Xiaomi aside from manufacturing smartphones now also came up with their first SOC. This new chip from Xiaomi is an octa-core processor named Surge S1. Which is currently equipped on their Xiaomi Mi 5c smartphone. According to Xiaomi it took them 28 months to come up with their first smartphone chip. And looks like Nokia might partner with Xiaomi to equip their upcoming Android smartphone with this new SOC.
Aside from that Xiaomi and Nokia have also recently made a deal. Where Xiaomi now have patents rights to Nokia. With the help of which Xiaomi will be able to make its image in the international market. As till now their smartphones were only limited to China or countries with emerging markets. Where currently in China alone, Xiaomi is ranked at 5th among its competition.
In terms of specs the Surge X1 from Xiaomi comes equipped with a total of eight cores. Where all the cores on the SOC are being powered by the Coretex A53 processor. Though the first four cores are running at a higher 2.2 GHz frequency. Compared to the other four cores which run at a frequency of 1.4 GHz. While the chip is also coupled with a Mali T-860 GPU.
Being a new chip from a new manufacturer the Surge X1 from Xiaomi do shine. Where in recent benchmarks the chip does beat out its competition. Which includes the Snapdragon 625 from Qualcomm and the Helio P20 from MediaTek. Both of which are used on mid ranged smartphones. Nokia might also partner up with Xiaomi to do the exact same thing. As users are more attracted towards affordable smartphones with good specs. Rather than going with a smartphone that costs a lot.
What do you think about this new partnership between the two emerging companies? Will Nokia and Xiaomi be able to make a great team against its competition.
