We are entering a whole new era of Hard Disks as the capacities of the modern day HDDs has grown to a whole new level. Toshiba, one of the most trusted names in HDD production has announced a 10TB giant HDD named MG06 Enterprise HDD. The monster Hard Disk is a SATA model to its MG06 series of 3.5-inch, enterprise capacity class hard disk drives (HDD).
The shipments of the Toshiba MG06 have already started and those who pre-ordered the drives will start receiving their packages in a matter of days. This fast supply and demand of such huge capacity holding HDDs shows that the dependency on higher capacity drives is increasing day by day and the reasons are pretty clear for those who understand the changing computer era. We are in a state of transition and the concept of keeping data on your personal computer is going to change very soon. The cloud dependency and the quickening expansion of IoT have made us dependent on the online storage.
Coming back to the topic, the Toshiba MG06 HDD is a perfect match for the modern day industry requirements as the drive has an improved magnetic recording head and disk magnetic layer. The base of this drive is the air-based HDDs concept which allows a minimum of 25% increase of capacity as compared to the previous series by Toshiba which was MG05. Talking about the figures, here’s a brief list:
- A sustained transfer rate of 237 MiB/s
- MTTF of 2,500,000 hours
- A 25% improvement in operating life
- Industry-standard 512emulation (512e)
- 4K native (4Kn) advanced format sector technologies
So now, you don’t have to worry about running those legacy apps which require 512 sector lengths using aligned-write environments.
