At last a good step to reduce the dangerously increasing game addiction among the children came to the scene when Tencent announced that they will limit the game playing time for the minors. The step was taken when reportedly a role-playing mobile game Honor of Kings was found becoming an addition among the children.
According to the Reuters reports, Tencent, one of the biggest internet provider in China will implement the decision of forced internet disconnection for the children under 18 on Tuesday. According to the plan, players under the age of 12 will be able to play the game for just one hour per day and no more games will be available after 9 PM. For those aged between 12 and 18 years have the permission to play for two-hour a day.
Honor of Kings
The famous gaming sensation Honor of Kings became the core reason of this reactionary step as more and more complaints were pouring in regarding the game that children were becoming addicted to it. Interestingly, the game has more than 200 million users and is the world’s top-grossing mobile game.
A term of Negative Energy is being used to criticize the action by some critiques. They believe that putting this limitation will weaken traditional values and is not going to be a solution to the problem. Tencent, however, has a firm belief that this forced limitation will help to reduce the addiction. According to the Tencent:
There are no rules to prevent indulgence in mobile games in China, but we decided to be the first to try to dispel parental worries by limiting play time and forcing children to log off.
As a side effect of the step taken by the company, the shares worth of Tencent fell as much as 5.1 percent on Tuesday. The thing which remains to be seen is that whether the company applies this limitation only to China or other countries are also affected by it.
