An announcement by Microsoft coming on Jan 24, 2017 confirms that their new Chief Technology Officer is non other than Kevin Scott, the seasoned and experienced Senior Vice President LinkedIn since 2001.
The announcement further confirms that even though Scott has been tapped as the CTO Microsoft, he will still remain a part of executive management LinkedIn team. In his role, Scott would be directly reporting to Satya Narayana Nadella, the Indian American chief executive officer of Microsoft since February 4, 2014 (succeeding Steve Ballmer).
As mentioned above, the c-level promotion awarded to Kevin Scott is an ‘expansion’ to his current role at LinkedIn, as its SVP Infrastructure. The move, says the statement, aims on “driving new strategic cross-company plans and initiatives” their (Microsoft’s) parent and social networking platform.
Poised to join the senior leadership of Microsoft, Kevin Scott has a lot of repute and experience in his backpack. He has been with LinkedIn since 2011 while prior to that, Scott had enjoyed number of key positions in key tech organizations such as Google and Pinterest.
The author (and co-author) of countless publications on binary re-writing, Scott has also been associated with LiveLoop; serving as one of their Angel Investors. Likewise, Scott also happens to be the ‘co-inventor’ on several patents relating to search, information extraction areas.
Sharing his feelings over the promotion of Scott, Nadella said the move thrilled everyone around since Kevin’s arrival means Microsoft gets his unique and unmatched abilities, expertise as well. “His focus should be on bringing professional cloud and leading global professional network together,” added Nadella.
