SK Hynix has decided to give a tough time to its competitors. With Micron’s recent announcement regarding the production of the GDDR6 graphics memory, it looked like the sole producer of the newest technology. But now, the game seems to be changing as SK Hynix has detailed out the plans for its own production of GDDR6 this year. The company’s GDDR6 modules run at a data rate of 16Gbps, bringing us to the fastest ever memory produced in the industry.
The upcoming high-end graphics card will be running GDDR6 and given that AMD’s Vega is going to feature HBM2, it can be a big alert for the Nvidia’s upcoming Volta architecture. The forthcoming graphics card by SK Hynix is planned to roll out in the starting of next year.
Expected Technical Specifications
Talking about the other technical specifications, this new DRAM can process up to 768GB/s. The uplift of performance in this version as compared to the GDDR5 is almost double. Not only the power increase, the company is aiming towards a power cut of up to 10%.This can be the reason of GDDR6’s highest grossing sales as the Senior Vice President of the company states:
With the introduction of this industry’s fastest GDDR6, SK Hynix will actively respond to high-quality, high-performance graphics memory solutions market. The Company would help our clients enhance their performance of high-end graphics cards.
