A few months ago, Samsung made an announcement about the global release of its next-generation Odyssey G9 curved gaming monitor. The Samsung G9 gaming monitor was revealed at CES 2020, and has joined the newly released G7 in the Odyssey line-up.

TÜV Rheinland, a top international certification organization acknowledged the Odyssey monitors with its top-notch 1000R Curved Display and Eye Comfort certificate.

Furthermore, the top-notch design of the Odyssey G9 won the CES 2020 Innovation Awards in the Computer Peripherals and Accessories category.

Due to its enormous size, the Odyssey G9 can double up as a productivity powerhouse. It can also be divided into several screens through software. A VESA mount ascertains the possibility of rotation, tilting, and other fundamental movements. Have it in mind that the monitor has a curvature of 1000R, so viewing angles will not be perfect. Although, Samsung stated that the horizontal and vertical viewing angles are both 178 degrees.

The Samsung Odyssey G9 gaming monitor features a 49-inch 240Hz QLED panel with a Dual Quad HD (5120×1440) resolution. It possesses a pixel response time of 1ms and also works well with NVIDIA G-Sync and AMD FreeSync Premium Pro.

Also, the monitor is HDR10+ compliant, and brags of 1000 bits peak brightness. Moreover, it provides about 88% coverage of NTSC color gamut, 125% sRGB coverage, 92% Adobe RGB coverage, and is color calibrated out of the box.

There isn’t any gaming monitor that is complete without a gamer-y aesthetic, and the Samsung Odyssey G9 has loads of it. The Infinity Core Lighting that was added to it enables users to select between 52 several colors and five lighting effects through the added software. Other features include picture-in-picture mode, game mode, eye saver mode, etc.

The Samsung Odyssey G9 gaming monitor also consists of two Display Ports 1.4 ports, one HDMI port, and one USB Type-C port. Samsung added two USB 3.0 ports and one 3.5mm audio jack too. It weighs about 16.7 kilograms (37lbs) in total. The monitor is available for purchase at  $1,699 on Samsung’s website.

Undoubtedly, Samsung usually focuses on the design of its products, and that absolutely comes through in the Odyssey G9. The setting up takes about a minute or two, and it involves zero loose screws. The stand provides adjustment and optimal placement of this large screen, with tilt, rotation, and height adjustment (120mm range). Integrated cable management (in the stem of the base) ensures that everything looks clean, even if you have several sources attached to this monitor.

The initial thing you observe after turning on the Samsung Odyssey G9 monitor is a crisp, greatly accurate picture that “pops” off the screen. The factory calibration/tuning becomes worthwhile here, and several monitors usually don’t look this awesome even after calibration.

The best way to get a high-quality experience with the Odyssey G9 is an accurate placement and seating position. You’ll desire to be relatively close so that the screen fills your field of view, and the curve is wrapping around your head. That happens to be clearly close to the monitor, but due to its high resolution and extraordinary sharp graphics, you can comfortably read small text on the monitor.

The Dual QHD resolution is 7.37 million pixels, almost similar to 8.29 million for 4K. It implies that a PC graphics card requires to be actually powerful to get the best out of this monitor. With a cautious modification of game settings and using G-SYNC, it’s possible to enjoy a pleasant, high frame rate, and high-resolution PC gaming.
