Crucial has rolled out MX500 2.5-inch SATA SSD models earlier this month in the 2.5-inch form-factor with four capacity variants:

  • 250 GB for USD $79.99 ($0.31 per GB)
  • 500 GB for $139.99 ($0.27 per GB)
  • 1 TB for $259.99 ($0.25 per GB)
  • 2 TB for $499.99 ($0.24 per GB)

The company has set a 5-year warranty for all these SSDs.

The Structure

Speaking of the structure, the Crucial MX500 has the following key parts:

  • Micron’s 2nd generation 64-layer 3D TLC NAND flash memory
  • Silicon Motion SM2258 controller
  • Custom firmware by Crucial
  • Power-loss protection

The two most interesting features of the drive, that need to be discussed here are:

  • Dynamic Write Acceleration (SLC-cached writes)
  • Redundant Array of Independent NAND (RAIN)
