Qualcomm and Apple have been through several tensions lately and the latest move by Qualcomm is surprising for many.
The chip making company recently filed a complaint with the US International Trade Commission (ITC), declaring the import and sales of some iPhone models as “unlawful.” Moreover, the company has urged ITC to “ban the importation of those iPhones and other products.” Qualcomm has given the following remarks in this regard:
Infringe one or more claims of six Qualcomm patents covering key technologies that enable important features and functions, and constitute unlawful and unfair use of Qualcomm’s technology.
Furthermore, they have demanded a Cease and Desist Order to bar further sales.
Infringing Apple products that have already been imported and to halt the marketing, advertising, demonstration, warehousing of inventory for distribution and use of those imported products in the United States.
The War is Getting Serious
These steps by Qualcomm has blown away all chances of any kind of reconciliation between the two tech giants. Qualcomm is fully aimed at ceasing Apple’s sales and imports and has filed the case in the District Court for the Southern District of California. The thing which remains to be seen is that which generations of the iPhone will be affected, or how the US ITC and the respective courts will rule.
