At the MWC 2018, Qualcomm introduced us to its new range of Snapdragon processors, the Snapdragon 700 series. Qualcomm has released it as an intermediary chip to fit into devices between the Snapdragon 600 series, and the new Snapdragon 845.

New Snapdragon 700 series unveiled fusing premium features into the midrange Qualcomm 700 series to sport On device AI The processor chips will serve the purpose for high end smartphones

To put it in simple words, Qualcomm has released a fine option for the smartphone manufacturers which include low-quality processors from the MediaTek company for cost saving. But again, the mid-range devices won’t be sporting it due to its expected heavy price.

What Is It Made For?

Filtering down the flagships and low-end or mid-range smartphones, we are left with high-end smartphones which do not appear in the limelight just as Samsung’s Note series and the iconic ‘S series’.

Alex Katouzian, the Qualcomm’s Senior VP, and GM explained it as:

The Snapdragon 700 Mobile Platform Series will bring premium tier technologies and features into more affordable devices.

On-device AI

With the improving technology, Qualcomm has also started considering AI for its processors as we are moving towards the world of 5G in 2019 and beyond.

Teased earlier, the Snapdragon 700 series will be featuring on-device AI technology. All other measures have been taken in the chipsets to support the upcoming 5G technology. You’ll get to see an improvement in the all-round device performance in the smartphone sporting it.

With the Qualcomm Snapdragon 700 series on board, smartphones and other devices will have double the AI computational speed over those with Snapdragon 660. This counts to nearly a 30% improvement in power efficiency.
