Aside from Microsoft who will soon be launching their true 4k console called Xbox One X. It seem that its rival does not have any plans to launch a new console in the near future. Where Sony also confirmed saying not to expect the next PlayStation console anytime soon. Which is kind of fair considering that the PS4 Pro just got out. While games nowadays do not require a lot of power to run smoothly.
According to Michael Patcher that might not be the case. As he suspects that Sony will be launching its next PlayStation console somewhere around the year 2019 to 2020. Aside from that he also thinks that the new PlayStation will also be backwards compatible with older titles. Though one of the craziest prediction that Michael Patcher made was regarding the performance on the next PlayStation console. Which according to him will be able to run games on a native 4k resolution at 240 FPS. Do keep in mind that the best GPU on the market is struggling hard to even play games at 60 FPS on 4k.
Michael Patcher said “My expectation that is that it’s not coming out in 2018. That is a 2019 0r 2020 but probably 2019. Sony is probably timing it better because they are going to bring out a 4K capable device when the 4K TV market reaches 50% in the USA and 35% in the rest of the world. I think Sony has probably got the next console cycle nailed down already. I think, they already know what they got to do”
Sony on the other hand is silent about their plans for the upcoming years. Though right now Sony is paying full attention on its upcoming 4k titles. Which includes Days Gone, God of War 4, Spider Man and Gran Turismo. All of which can be played in 4k on the recently launched PS4 Pro console.
