Proceeding forward in the world of technology, Philips has announced a gigantic new 49-inch 32:9 display screen named 492P8, which will sport a native resolution of 5120 x 1440 pixels!

When Is It Coming Out?

The screen is set to launch in the US by the end of 2018. Although we don’t have a confirmed release date, sources tell that it might see the day of light by Q4 2018 at a hefty price tag of $899.


There isn’t much known about the 49-inch screen but what has come to our knowledge, is that it will have a Curved Super-Wide display which will compete with the Samsung’s CHG90 that has a native resolution of 3840 x 1080 pixels.

To achieve a splendid resolution on a curved screen, Philips will be using the same VA panel with a 1800R curvature. We’ll get to see:

  • 600 nits max brightness
  • 5000:1 contrast ratio
  • 178-degree viewing angle

The port selection consists of:

1x DisplayPort, 1x HDMI, 1x USB-C, VGA (D-Sub), USB 3.0 Type-A, and Ethernet
