Till now we have all seen what the new AMD Ryzen can do, but there is no news on how well the processors would actually overclock. Before you make your decision, on either to choose the red or blue team. We have some interesting news for you.
MSI is a company among others that will also support AMD’s new Ryzen platform. According to some rumors MSI AM4 motherboards, would have a special gaming knob, on the motherboard itself. The knob on these MSI motherboards would be called as Game Boost Knob. While the knob would be an easier way for its users, to overclock their newly owned Ryzen CPU. The Game Boost Knob will have a total of eleven stages, boosting the core clocks on the Ryzen CPU with each stage.
Now the boost clock is dependent on the type of Ryzen CPU as well. Each CPU depending on its cores would have its own highest achievable boost clock. Now the 8 core CPU can gain the highest core clock at 4.4 GHz, while the 6 core and 4 core Ryzen CPU will gain a highest core clock of 4.3 GHz and 4.2 GHz respectively.
In order to gain these high over-clocks. The owners of new Ryzen CPU, should also get a good CPU cooler, air or water cooling is an option. Or if you are feeling lucky custom water cooling.
AMD has come a long and it’s impressive to see both companies trading blows. But what AMD lacks in, is the amount of overclock it can achieve on its CPU compared to Intel. Because personally I have seen PC enthusiasts achieve a stable overclock of, as high as 5 GHz on their Intel CPU.
AMD also said they are working on an updated version of their new Ryzen CPU already. Maybe then the red team would be able to keep up the overclocking game with their rival as well.
