According to Paul Norris of Mad Fellows Games, developers will use Xbox One X power despite the PlayStation 4 having a Larger Install Base.
GamingBolt had a chance to speak with Paul Norris of Mad Fellows Games, they are actually responsible for Aaero (multi-platform game). They were talking about the Xbox One X capabilities and GamingBolt raised a question, Whether he believes that developers will take advantage of Xbox One X extra power, despite the fact the PlayStation 4 having a Larger Install Base so developers may not care to utilize the Xbox One X power. To which Paul responded saying that;
“I think if it’s a case of just setting the resolution to 4K, possibly upping texture resolution and letting it run at a better framerate there’s no reason for devs not to utilize the power if it’s there to use. I think that’s the aim with Xbox One X as opposed to developing something completely bespoke for the system.”
Also Paul was question if XB1X is going to help Microsoft in terms of sales? To which he didn’t gave a clear answer but he did say that it’ll be good for the market and for the gamers. Here’s what he stated when asked the about Xbox One X sales;
“It’s hard to say. I guess it may do in some regions of the world more than others. I think both platforms have a solid install base now and good support for and from developers. I don’t think there’s going to be any losers any time soon. I’d like to think there’s just going to be more options for gamers to choose the console that best suits their taste.”
Basically two things here, the fact that he claims that developers will take advantage of the Xbox One X extra power. Now as he said that if that’s going to be just a case of utilizing the better performance, running the games at higher framerate, running the game at high resolution and higher resolution textures. Developers will surely take this extra step and optimize the games for Xbox One X.
However, that’s not going to be the case with all games and also don’t expect developers to optimize the games to an extent that first-party developers will do. And we’re starting to see that already, we are talking about first-party developers utilizing their full potential of Xbox One X.
There are game engines which are very well optimized for Xbox One X, games like Forza Motor Sport 7 (Native 4k/60 FPS and higher graphical fidelity graphics). Gears of War Native 4k/30 FPS in single-player, 60 FPS in multi-player and you’ll get a better graphical fidelity on top of that. State of Decay 4k/30 FPS etc etc.. All these first-party are taking a proper advantage of Xbox One X power.
