Linksys Smart WiFi

Our personal life is highly dependent on technology. The extraordinary advancements in technology surely have a lot to do with this.

With everything in our surroundings and homes getting smarter and intelligent, technology and the minds behind its growth has touched unbelievable heights of success.

We, now, live in a world where we don’t have to worry about our daily tasks, just a click and we are good to go. With app-controlled locks and lights, smart security systems, smartphones, smart speakers, etc., technology is definitely making our lives easier.

This article talks about a smart WiFi router known as Linksys Smart WiFi, a new innovation in home networking.

The Linksys Smart WiFi is a free service that comes with the Linksys Smart Wi-Fi Routers, giving secure access to your home network.

It can be operated via browser or your mobile device. Linksys Smart WiFi allows you to check the connection status of your devices, gives guest access to the Internet, or block your child’s computer from accessing harmful websites.

With all these benefits, Linksys Smart WiFi also permits you to prioritize selective devices on your network so that they get the most bandwidth, hence eliminating lag times and buffering, which is no less than a cherry on the cake.

Before we dig deeper into knowing more about Linksys Smart Wifi, it will be wise for us to know what makes Linksys smart WiFi router different from a regular WiFi router on the basis of its features.

Linksys Smart WiFi Router Features

1. Control your network from an app:

Yes, you heard it right. With a smart wifi router, you have the power to control your home network settings even if you are miles away from your home.
The app lets you check on everything about your network. You can invite people to join your network by sending your network SSID and password via email or text.

You can change your wifi name or password, port forwarding settings etc. Smart WiFi routers make it all possible through an app.

2. Create your own personal cloud storage:

Smart WiFi routers give you the benefit of creating your personal cloud storage. All you need to do is connect a hard disk/ USB drive to your router’s USB port and you can quickly transfer data.

Smart WiFi routers also allow you to set up secure access, so only authorized users can access your files, something which is impossible with a regular router.

3. Prioritize devices for high speed:

Nowadays, there are more devices in our houses than human beings. Since there are a lot of devices connected to a single router, it is under a lot of loads.

Smart WiFi router lets you prioritize selected devices and assign more bandwidth to devices that need it the most. It also lets you set bandwidth for different devices.

4. View all the connected devices:

How brilliant it would be if your WiFi router is engaged in performing network mapping. Well, smart WiFi routers do.

They graphically display every device connected to the router. You can click on any device to get information about it. Network mapping makes it easy to know who is using your network without having to keep a track of MAC addresses.

5. MU-Mimo support:

MU-Mimo stands for Multiuser Multiple Input Multiple Output. A smart WiFi router can simultaneously handle multiple devices and give each of them equal attention.

MU-Mimo allows to simultaneously communicate with a number of devices and send/ receive data from all of them at the same point of time. This increases the efficiency and capacity of a router making it better suited for data-intensive activities such as video streaming and gaming.

6. Keep an eye on your kid’s browsing habits:

This is unquestionably the saviour for all those parents who see their children misusing time on the internet or surfing the wrong websites.

You can restrict the time by stopping your children’s access to the net by specifying the time ranges. You can even block the websites. Parental control feature is also available in a regular router but it has been presented in a very complicated manner.

7. Guest networks:

With a smart WiFi router, you can allow your guest to log in your network. This lets you share your network but not your files. This feature gives you a nice overview, displaying detailed information about the connected devices.

8. Built-in speed test:

Instead of looking for websites to check for the speed, smart WiFi routers are equipped with built-in speed test, a feature not possessed by regular routers.

Linksys Smart WiFi App

Sitting miles away from your home and worried about your children misusing the internet or someone stealing your wifi.

With Linksys smart WiFi app, managing your home network has become easier than ever. All you have to do is set up your Linksys smart WiFi router, create a Linksys Smart WiFi Account and associate with a single or multiple routers.

You can now dump all your worries in a pit because Linksys Smart WiFi App lets you monitor your home network.

By using any mobile device, you can easily connect to your router anytime, anywhere. Linksys Smart WiFi App is compatible with Android as well as apple products.

It offers various options some of which have been discussed below:

1. WiFi Network:

Linksys Smart WiFi lets you operate three channels- one 2.4 GHz channel and two 5 GHz channels. You can set up different passwords for these channels which can be shared via email or text. Also, you can turn on/ off the channels as and when required.

2. Smart Connect:

This option aids the router with better performance for the times when you are streaming or playing games online.

3. Security Settings:

Linksys Smart WiFi eradicates all the worries about hacking because the data is protected and encrypted. It consists of three options.

  • WPA2 Personal- It is recommended for home use. You can log in via username and password
  • WPA2 Enterprise- It is recommended for office use and you can log in via radius server.
  • WPA2/ WPA Mixed Personal- It works with older devices that connect only with the original WPA standard.

4. Broadcast SSID:

Service Set Identifier or SSID is the wireless network name. Whenever a device searches the area for a wireless network it will detect the SSID in order to connect to your network. By disabling the SSID broadcast you can prevent other users from detecting your wireless network name or SSID.

5. WPS or WiFi Protected Setup:

You can connect a device to WPS. Linksys Smart WiFi allows you to easily connect new devices to your WiFi without manually configuring security settings.

6. Guest Access:

If you want to add a new user to your network, you can easily do so by using the Guest Access option present on Linksys Smart WiFi App. It lets you add a maximum of 50 guests.

7. Parental Controls:

Present in a lot of applications, this option helps to manage your device. For Linksys smart WiFi app, it has assisted parents to keep a track on their children’s activity like which websites they surf or how much time they spend online etc. Parental control lets you set up time ranges or block websites.

8. Advanced settings:

It consists of port settings. Under Linksys Smart WiFi Port Settings, we have three options:

  • Linksys Smart WiFi Single Port Forwarding- It allows you to add a rule if you would like to send traffic that comes into the router on a specific port, to a specific port on the connected device.
  • Linksys Smart WiFi Port Range Forwarding- You can use it if you would like to send traffic from a range of ports to a specific connected device.
  • Linksys Smart WiFi Port Range Triggering- You can add a rule if you want the router to remember the port, a specific device usage when sending data to the internet. Also, data that returns through that port will be routed back to that device.

9. Linksys Smart WiFi MAC Filter:

This feature of your Linksys Smart Wi-Fi Router will allow or prevent access to the network using this unique identifier. The MAC Filter feature is a wireless security option that you can use instead of setting up a WiFi password to protect your network.
