LG has always surprised us with a new flagship device at every MWC event. Though this year, the company has only introduced a refresh of its current flagship device named LG V30S ThinQ.
In terms of specs everything on the new LG V30S ThinQ is the same. Which includes the 18:9 display, Qualcomm Snapdragon 835, dual camera setup and a 3300mAh battery. Aside from that user will be getting upgraded memory on the new device. Which steps up from 4GB to 6GB. While the storage is now limited to 128GB and 256GB only. The LG V30S ThinQ also introduces two new colors as well including Moroccan Blue and Platinum Grey.
So what does the new LG V30S ThinQ offers that different you might ask? Well this year LG is integrating AI in their phones. Which for now is only limited to the camera known as AI Cam. LG will also be integrating AI to its existing V30 phone as well later on. So unless you wanted more RAM or a new color, there is really no reason to upgrade.
The AI CAM on the LG V30S ThinQ uses a tool called EyeEm Vision. Which basically brings machine learning system to the device. The AI Cam is also trained on 100 million images, similar to what Google has done with the Pixel 2. With the AI Cam, users will be able to take better and color accurate pictures. Because the camera knows what it’s being pointed at.
There is also a new Bright Mode as well on the LG V30S ThinQ. Which combines only four pixels to get the brightest picture in low light conditions. Though users will be trading off picture quality for a picture with enhanced exposure.
It’s good to see LG integrating AI into their flagship devices now. But the new LG V30S ThinQ is not really an upgrade. I guess LG had to keep its promise of delivering a new phone every year, even if they don’t have something different to offer.
