According to The Investor, a South Korean outlet. The CEO of LG might have ordered its development team to design its next flagship phone from scratch. The phone was also planned for its launch at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. That will be starting at the end of February.
An LG official also said that ”Right after the vice chairman made the announcement at the Consumer Electronics Show last week, a direct order was sent down to the working-level officials to start over. A new decision on a possible launch date will be released around the Lunar New Year holiday next month.’’
Though it’s nice to see LG trying to bring something new to the market. Still remaking an entire phone from scratch in a time frame of three months seems rather impossible. It also looks like LG is interested in refining what they already have to make its next flagship phone more attractive, before its launch. Aside from that LG is also reported to put a stop to its flagship launch cycle. Where the company will now be paying more attention in launching a great number of mid-tier phones, instead of flagship phones every year.
The company also said that ”we will unveil new smartphones when it is needed. But we will not launch it just because other rivals do’’.
The reason behind LG going back to drawing board might also be to implement a new technology. Which certainly would make it more attractive compared to what other might have. This does point towards the addition of an embedded finger print sensor from Synaptics. This sensor lies beneath the display allowing manufacturers to bring a truly bezel-less phone to the market. Though its only compatible with OLED panels for now.
What do you think LG is planning for its next flagship phone this year?
