When we first came to know about this curse of ‘Keylogging’ we were really shocked to know that switching to modes like ‘Incognito Mode’ or just clearing the browser history isn’t a good way of protection. HP, a well-established name has come to our attention being involved in this filthy game.
Keylogging In HP Laptops
According to a recent report, hundreds of HP laptops were found with a hidden keylogger software pre-installed on it. This is not the first time when such case is in front of us, actually, a similar kind of thing has already happened prior to this. Yet again, HP has been found in the middle of keylogging crisis. Here’s what HP has to say regarding the matter:
A potential security vulnerability has been identified with certain versions of Synaptics touchpad drivers that impacts all Synaptics OEM partners. A party would need administrative privileges in order to take advantage of the vulnerability. Neither Synaptics nor HP has access to customer data as a result of this issue.
This Doesn’t End Here…
A similar kind of vulnerability was discovered a few months ago coming as a piece of code along with audio drivers. So the danger isn’t new to us. Myng, the security researcher said:
I messaged HP about the finding. They replied terrifically fast, confirmed the presence of the keylogger (which actually was a debug trace) and released an update that removes the trace.
