The upcoming 8th generation Intel Core processors will be based on the same Kaby Lake architecture. Though Intel have made some improvement to it, resulting in better performance with efficiency. But that is not what the 8th generation Intel Core processors are all about. As Intel is currently waiting to launch its high end desktop models. Which is said to be based on a new architecture named Intel Coffee Lake.

It seems just like the Intel 8th generation Core i3 variant, benchmarks scores of the upcoming Core i7 8700k also saw the light of day. According to which the upcoming Intel 8th generation i7 will be an even better performer than the current one. In terms of specs the upcoming Intel 8th generation Core i7 8700k, will come equipped with 6 cores and 12 threads. Which is an improvement over the current generation as they come equipped with 4 cores and 8 threads.

So what kind of performance are we looking at between the two generations? Well upcoming Intel 8th generation Core i7 8700k performs 11% better in single threaded operations. Though when it comes to multi-threaded performance the Intel 8th generation Core i7 8700k is 51% faster. Which should be the case as the 8th generation Intel Core i3 variant beats the current Intel Core i7 7700k.

HotHardware also posted some scores comparing the two generations against each other. Which includes the current Core i7 7700k, against the upcoming Intel 8th generation Core i7 8700K processor.

  • Processor Multi-Media: 658.57 Mpix/s (versus 447.76 Mpix/s)-47 percent increase
  • Processor Cryptography: 10.47 GB/s (versus 9.34 GB/s)-12 percent increase
  • Scientific Analysis (Single Precision): 61.41 GFLOPS (versus 48.51 GFLOPS)-26 percent increase
  • Scientific Analysis (Double Precision): 32.11 GFLOPS (versus 24.40 GFLOPS)-32 percent increase

For now take these scores with a grain of salt, till we have actual benchmark scores on our hands. But if these scores are to be true, then Intel really does have something exciting to offer this year.
