If it isn’t already in your knowledge, let me tell you that Intel and AMD have been planning to board on the same ship for quite a long time. This was first brought to our attention when last year Intel announced its new Core-H series processors to use onboard graphics from AMD’s Radeon team. This was confined to just statements and we didn’t actually see things happening. But just recently, something just blew life into this Intel-AMD relationship and that is, the Core i7-8809G CPU by Intel which is said to feature RX Vega by AMD.
This processor wasn’t in the news whereas its siblings like 8700K and some other 8th gen processors were all over our news feeds. This very processor is listed as Intel’s ‘unlocked’ processors on their official website so this is probably the thing that we didn’t see coming. In terms of TDP, the Core i7-8809G is going to stand in between Core i5-7640X and the Core i7-8700K.
To sum up the features in the briefest possible way, here are the key points:
- Four cores and eight threads
- Support for dual channel DDR4 memory up to 2400MHz
- Intel HD Graphics 630 to support the Radeon RX Vega M GH chip
- 3.1GHz clock speed and 8MB of cache
