Instagram is leaving no stone unturned in bringing new features to the app and growing the engagement. The new feature that we are talking about here is Remix. Yes, you heard it right. You can now create a new reels video alongside an already existing reel from another user. The new feature is very similar to TikTok’s Duet feature and therefore is being referred to as clones.
In the absence of TikTok in India, Instagram is putting all its efforts to capture the entire market by introducing new features to the app, quite similar to those of TikTok. Last year in July, Instagram introduced Reels, a short video format which worked just like TikTok did. Initially, there were only limited editing features. But with time, Instagram brought several changes and the Reels feature grew exponentially.
The new feature launched by Instagram on Wednesday, Remix, is a cloned version of the Duet feature of TikTok that allowed users to respond to another person’s video content with their own. According to instagram, the Remix feature will lead to more creative collaboration and increase engagement in the app.
What is Remix?
Remix allows you to create a Reels video with an already existing Reel made by some other user. It is a way of collaborating with different people on the platform. According to an announcement by Facebook Instagram creators can have their public Reels recommended on Facebook in India. It was done to boost reels in scale.
Features like these increase engagement and make the platform more connected, making it easier for people to collaborate with anyone.
When Reels was launched last year, it replaced TikTok and provided a stage for people to showcase their talents in a very crisp video format. It was challenging initially, due to the limited options. Various new additions have been brought to this feature like increasing the recording time limit, options to trim and delete clips from the timeline, etc. Such interactive tools provide a way for people to connect with each other.
Remix is nothing but two reels combined together, the latter being the reaction of the former. Using remix, the user can shoot a new reel in cooperation with a reel which has already been made by someone.
You can remix your own reel, but you can’t remix a reel that’s already a remix or reels that the creator doesn’t allow remixes on. New reels will have remixes enabled automatically, but if you have an old reel that you want people to remix, you can turn that on by tapping that three-dot menu on the video and selecting “Enable Remixing”. To turn off remixing on all reels, you will have to do some changes in the profile settings.
How to create a Remix?
Creating a remix of a pre-existing reel is way too easy. You can follow the steps given below to create your first remix:
- Find a reel you want to remix.
- Click on the three dots on the reel.
- You will find the ‘Remix this Reel’ option, select it.
- After you click on that option, your screen will split into the original reel and your new one. Start recording your Remix side-by-side to the original reel.
- The feature has several options like controlling the volume for the original audio, your recorded audio, and adding a voiceover. There are more options that let you edit the Remix.
- Edit the Remix according to your wish and you are good to go.
The new feature has been rolled out and users have started creating their own versions of remixes. The Remix option will be enabled by default on all the new Reels. However, creators will have to enable the option themselves on old reels.
