Apple have finally started making its way into both augmented and virtual reality technologies. Where Apple also announced its future plans for SteamVR titles on their Mac platform. Aside from that the upcoming Apple iPhone 8 is also said to have augmented reality functionality. Though currently Apple is working with a famous furniture manufacturer named IKEA. Where both Apple and IKEA will be working to create a new AR shopping application.

So what will the IKEA augmented reality application help Apple users do? Well basically it will help users to decide what kind of furniture will best suit their home. This new augmented reality application will use the camera of any Apple device. After which users would be able to see in real time how the furniture will look like in a specific area. This would also help users who want to measure the size or the furniture or if it would fit in the desired area or not.

According to IKEA ”this will be the first augmented reality app that will enable you to make buying decisions. Ideally, you could put a sofa in your home with the help of the app, and then with one click add it in the shopping cart on the e-commerce site.”

IKEA is still working this new augmented reality app, where we might see it later this year. IKEA also said that users should expect around 500 to 700 products available on their augmented reality application at launch. Aside from that all the new products would be available on their augmented reality first before getting shipped to their stores.

IKEA also thinks that their new augmented reality application could become ”the largest AR platform in the world overnight. We think that augmented reality and virtual reality will be a total game changer for retail in the same way as the internet, only this time much faster.”

So what do you think about where Apple is heading with their augmented reality technology?
