For Pixel and Nexus branded devices Google is rolling out its much awaited Monthly Security Patch. Its an over-the-air update in which users will be happy to learn about the Android 7.1.1 Nougat factory images. It consist of a new security patch and is available for download. Nevertheless, the software can also be downloaded through website by Google developer`s. In the month of December, year 2016, the reports linked with the possibility of Google forwarding a new Android security update early in the first week of January 2017.
At the moment, officially Google has confirmed about the availability of the security patch. The bulletin of the Android Security leaks out that a total of 95 passiveness were spotted. January 1, 2017, patch fixed up 23 bugs per Google with a total of 72 bugs were addressed via patch in Jan 5, 2017. “Partners had the notice of the problem described in the news on December 05, 2016 or may be earlier. What can be the “Passiveness” faced by them?
One of the most severe passiveness is addressed by the January security patch in the extraction of remote code on any of the affected devices using various methods. It can be carried out using different methods or mediums; emails, audio servers, accessing browsers, MMS while processing, frame sequence, core network, provider of external source and many more. The passiveness are rated accordingly as per critical or high by Google, depending on the importance. Google leaks out that it has not received any of the reports on the abuse or making use of the passiveness so far.
For most of the Nexus and Pixel devices January security patch is available. The device is eligible for the monthly security patch from Google accordingly:
- Pixel C
- Pixel XL
- Nexus 5X
- Nexus 9 (Wi-Fi Variant)
- Nexus Player
- Nexus 6P
The one who cannot wait for the arrival of OTA update, you can download the factory image on your phone and flash the same or you can download the factory image from the website of Google`s developer`s. For specific Nexus and Pixel device, the build number are as follows;
- Pixel users are to download the NMF26U and NMF26V based on Nougat operating system. Users of Nexus 6P can deploy either the N4F26J or N4F26I build, based on the region.
- Google Pixel XL and Pixel users can download NMF26V and NMF26U, which is Android Nougat based build.
- The one who owns Nexus 6 need to have patience as the full OTA image as well as the refreshed factory image are expected to be available soon.
- Nexus 5X users can have the N4F26I build, if one owns Nexus 9 or Nexus player then as per use N4F26M or NMR26R and Pixel C users can take full advantage of the new N426I build.
