Google has added a new security tool to its G Suite that provides features like limiting the access of 3rd party apps to its users’ data. This allows admins to only approve a list of pre-approved apps with OAuth apps whitelisting. The users can grant access to their G Suite data to any of the apps on the whitelist.
To explain this, Google says:
This prevents malicious apps from tricking users into accidentally granting access to their corporate data.
Security Feature Was Necessary
This security feature added by Google was necessary as Gmail users were recently hit by a phishing attack. The hackers abused Google’s OAuth login page where third-party apps can request access to different permissions in Gmail. This resulted in a slowing down of the process of publishing web apps by Google.
