Virtual Private Networks (VPNs) have become a headache for the Chinese government as they declared them as illegal networks, earlier this year. The government warned the public tons of times but now its time that they have ordered all the telecommunication companies to block the personal VPNs by next year, February 1st to be exact. That doesn’t mean that companies cannot use the VPNs internally, but the individuals seem to be out of luck this time. Also, the companies will only be allowed to use leased lines (registered with officials), to access the full internet.
Great Firewall Breaches
The reason why China is acting strictly against the VPNs is that people use them to breach the Great Firewall and access blocked services. The blocked content can include political disagreements or other similar controversial topics.
Be it a political reason or anything else, the bottom line is that the Chinese people won’t be able to use private VPNs. If someone is using a private VPN, that doesn’t necessarily mean that he/she is trying to access an illegal or unwanted blocked content.Sometimes there are certain limitations that need to be surpassed in order to get your work done. For instance, you are in China and you want to access your accounts that are not allowed in China then what will you do?
Not every VPN is created to breach the Firewalls for checking some prohibited content. China is a big market to companies and blocking all private VPNs is not the permanent solution to this problem.
