Google has been successful in acquiring the best of the human resource as the recent news suggests that the top Apple Silicon Architect, Manu Gulati has been acquired by Google in order to work for the Google Pixel.
Gulati’s LinkedIn Profile
Gulati who used to be a silicon architect at Apple in the recent past is now a part of the Google team and the LinkedIn profile of Gulati shows the same. The updated position title goes like ‘Lead SoC Architect at Google’. Not only this, Manu Gulati has a successful SoC architect career which includes working in the technical staff at AMD. Also, the LinkedIn Profile suggests that the Gulati has been an engineering manager and later a senior engineering manager at Broadcom. Gulati joined the Cupertino team in 2009 and the latest news shows that Gulati is now a part of the Google family.
Due to the enormous experience of Gulati and exposure to the major brands and especially Apple, Google hopes to make full use of his experience. His experience of designing includes designing custom silicon for Apple’s iPad, iPhone, and Apple TV products and he was actually the pioneer of it. If you remember, Apple launched its own chips in 2010 starting with the A4 SoC found in the original iPad.
Bringing a change to Gulati’s career, Google wants to take a different approach. Google is using Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 821 SoC in the Pixel lineup and the 2nd Gen variants will not face any change as far as the SoC is concerned. The latest flagships will feature Snapdragon 835 which will definitely improve the performance and efficiency.
The change that Google want to bring in the Pixel lineup can be witnessed from the 3rd generation of the phone where the company aims to incorporate Gulati’s custom crafted chip designs. This will make Google independent of Qualcomm and newer levels of speed and efficiency can be achieved as Gulati is one of the inventors of the modern day SoCs.
