Ok, so this is time for some realization! If you are in the fantasy that the Ryzen Threadripper has two dummy dies just because you saw the der8auer’s video, you may be wrong. The German overclocker wasted a $1,000 processor just to prove his point. Even the company’s officials approached him to delete the video from online forums but it was already too late. But the bottom line here is, that there are no dummy dies in the Ryzen Threadripper.
What der8auer Did?
Now diving a bit further into this matter, let’s have a look at der8auer’s findings. The two spare dies which we were considering as dummy dies are actually transistors made up of real silicon. To prove his point, der8auer bought the 1000 EUR beast, Ryzen Threadripper 1950X to be delidded. All this just to bring you guys the reality of those dies.
What he has found was absolutely expected and der8auer has proved this by himself that all dies have transistors and integrated circuits. Though they have limited functionalities, at least they are not just capturing the die size for no use.
